FRAUDULENT SCHEMES UNLAWFULLY CONDUCTED USING INTERNATIONAL FILING SYSTEMS (i.e. P.C.T & Madrid Protocol) SET UP BY THE WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ORGANISATION
It has come to the attention of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) that there are certain entities and individuals, who have been, over the years, designing forms that appear as official invoices but intended as part of false pretence to gain financially from unsuspecting users of WIPO services.
It was discovered that these entities and individuals in various countries attempt to mislead users of the international filing systems by falsely imposing fees on processes that have nothing to do with the processing of their patent or trademark applications before certain national offices. For details and pictures of some of these fraudulent invoices, visit the WIPO website on: http://www.wipo.int/pct/en/warning/pct_warning.htm
Consequently and in support of WIPO and its aim to create extensive awareness to the world over and in particular, to inventors, small businesses and legal representatives, IPOPNG would like to extend this warning to all nationals and potential applicants to refrain from engaging with un-reputable entities who claim to have the capacity to facilitate processing of patent and trademark applications under the international filing system provided by WIPO unless if adviced otherwise by WIPO-PCT legal unit (email: firstname.lastname@example.org ) or a reliable source.
In reference to PNG, IPOPNG currently has a list of recognised law firms within Papua New Guinea that ONLY deal with the filing of Patent and Trade Mark applications. The office does not deal with individuals nor private businesses that may in one way or the other claim to know how to facilitate the filing of an application before our office.
Therefore, applicants and intending users are urged to contact the office (email: email@example.com ) for more information on filing of applications should you decide to file in Papua New Guinea or you can view these information on our website ( https:///www.ipopng.gov.pg )
